Sync.com is the best cloud backup for India. It's a reliable cloud backup platform with plenty of features and a generous 5 GB free plan.

  • Pricing

    • 5 GB: $0/mth
    • 2TB: $8/mth

Sync com website

Sync.com is an online backup and cross-platform syncing service with a strong focus on privacy, ideal for anybody in India who wants high levels of privacy. It is a zero-knowledge service that provides robust end-to-end encryption. As a result, you retain full control over your vault and gain complete data privacy. Pus, it has a free 5GB plan, which means you can trial the service risk free to experience all of its features. The starter plan does restrict data transfers, however, and you only get basic sharing and collaboration features, so you will need a full account to use these features.

Users get password-protected file sharing and two-factor authentication for added security. And you get file versioning so that you can revert files back to previous versions from the last 30 days. This is excellent for people working on creative projects such as photo or video editing, or just anybody that accidentally deletes or alters a file they need. Sync.com allows you to preview your files to check which one you need before clicking restore.

Overall, we find Sync.com to be a cloud storage service that is easy to use. I found it to provide superb functionality and cross-compatibility thanks to its apps for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. The cross-platform backup and syncing gives you complete control over your data in real-time.

Plus, you have the option to save your data straight to the cloud using the "Sync Vault" feature. As a result, you can store data online and free up save locally on your device. And, on mobile devices, you can choose to automatically upload all your photos and videos as you make them which ensures that they are always being backed up reliable. An excellent cloud backup with 2 TB of storage for just $9 per month. Well worth trialing.

NordLocker is a beginner-friendly cloud backup service for India. It's a two-in-one application that provides local encryption for your data and secure cloud backups with E2EE.

  • Pricing

    • 12 month (500GB): $3.99/mth
    • 1 month (500GB): $7.99/mth

Nordlocker website

NordLocker 2.0 is an encryption tool and cloud backup service developed by the popular VPN company NordVPN. It is an excellent application for anybody living in India who wants to encrypt the data stored on their hard drive. Encrypting your hard drive secures your data locally so that your device is protected against theft or unwanted access.

In addition to providing this useful local encryption for your data, NordLocker provides a cloud locked folder that lets you backup data to the cloud. Any files or folders you drop into your 'cloud locker' folder are automatically stored in your cloud space completely securely using E2EE. This ensures that your data can only ever be accessed by you.

For free, consumers get 3 GB of storage. You can increase this to 500 GB at a cost of just $3.99 per month, which we think is extremely competitive. We also like that with NordLocker you can use the app on as many Windows and Mac computers as you like with just a single subscription. That said, it hasn't released mobile apps yet (but they are being rolled out soon). As a result, you will need to connect your mobile device to a computer to copy the data across to your cloud locker folder if you want to back it up.

In terms of drawbacks or limitations, NordLocker doesn't do full disk backup. Instead, will need to manually drop the file or folders you want to back up manually into your cloud locker folder. That said, you do have the option to copy the entire of your hard drive to your NordLocker folder if you want. And NordLocker will encrypt and backup any file type (other than temp files) – which provides an advantage over many of the other cloud backup services we have reviewed.

NordLocker also does not work to back up NAS devices, and it doesn't provide FTP compatibility, so if you require these you will need to shop elsewhere. The good news is that you can sync your data from the cloud to multiple devices using NordLocker. To do so, all you need do is install the NordLocker app onto your device and log in. NordLocker also lets you securely share files with contacts (but they must have a NordLocker account).

Overall, NordLocker is an excellent encryption and cloud backup service that is surprisingly cheap considering what you get. A superb option for anybody who wants to back up data easily in a fully encrypted state. And you can try it completely risk-free thanks to its free plan. An impressive service that is about to get even better thanks to its forthcoming mobile apps.

A reliable and highly customizable cloud backup provider for India, with secure end-to-end-encryption and a broad feature set.

  • Pricing

    • Personal - 5TB: $1.65/mth
      75% OFF
    • Personal - 2TB: $4.34/mth

Idrive website

IDrive is a fully featured cloud storage service that provides excellent value for money for anybody living in India. The service is highly reliable and has apps for all popular platforms. It provides full system disk image backup, true archiving, file versioning, and optional end-to-end encryption. It also provides backups for NAS devices and external drives.

You can use a Personal IDrive plan on an unlimited number of devices, and that plan comes with 5TB of storage for just $52.12 for the first year, or 10TB of storage for $74.62 for the first year. This is a very low price for such a large amount of storage. Best of all, you can try it risk free because it gives you 5 GB of storage without paying a rupee! This is great news because it means you can try it to back up your data in India without risking your cash.

IDrive splits the data from your various devices into different folders – this includes things like mapped drives and external hard drives. As a result, you have complete visibility over your data and can easily search and restore backups. The software lets you backup photos, videos, calendar events, contacts, and a whole host of different file types. IDrive also lets you share files with your contacts (but not if you use end-to-end encryption). I was particularly impressed with IDrive's block-level file system which provides faster uploads by ensuring only altered parts of files are uploaded.

IDrive's Snapshot feature lets you perform point-in-time recovery. And it provides 30 previous versions both for those snapshots and for file versions. This means you can easily revert to the previous version of a file or of your system. IDrive uses secure TLS for data in transit, and it encrypts your data-at-rest AES 256-bit encryption. That said, we recommend you switch on end-to-end encryption to ensure you get complete privacy for your data.  An excellent all rounder with apps for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.

4. Livedrive

A popular cloud backup service with a wide selection of features (but no E2EE). Offers unlimited storage space affordably.

  • Pricing

    • 1 user on 1 desktop: $8/mth
    • 5 users: $25/mth
    • 1 user multiple devices: $16/mth

Livedrive website

Livedrive is a popular US-owned cloud storage service based in the United Kingdom. It was first released in 2008 and has since been acquired by J2 Global – the American cloud services company behind leading VPN brands such as IPVanish and StrongVPN. Subscribers can pick from three different plans: Backup, Briefcase, and Pro Suite. The Backup plan offers unlimited backup for one user, at just $8.99 per month. Users can opt to pay more to increase this allowance up to 5 users, if they want to.

Livedrive is a reliable cloud storage solution that is a great option for consumers who want an easy cloud backup experience. It has apps for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS, which means it is suitable for the vast majority of people. It is a fully-featured service with file versioning, syncing, file sharing, FTP and NAS backups, and two-factor authentication. It is also completely scalable depending on your needs. Plus, it is competitively priced when compared to its competitors.

Depending on which plan you choose, you get both cloud storage and a special briefcase which you can use for sharing files and syncing. The biggest drawback with this service is that it does not provide end-to-end encryption. However, it does provide reliable encryption for data in transit and data at rest, and this service is a good option for people who prefer to be able to restore their account if they forget their password. As a result, this service is an option worth considering for people who don't have particularly sensitive data, and want to back up their data with a company that will not invade their vault for marketing purposes. A 14-day trial is available to test the service and its apps.

5. MEGA

An excellent cloud backup for India, ideal for anybody looking for a free option that is secure and has plenty of space.

Mega website

MEGA is a secure cloud storage service based in Auckland, New Zealand. It is perfect for anybody in India who doesn't have a lot to spend. MEGA is open source, which means is can be fully audited by the online community. It is also a zero-knowledge service with secure end-to-end encryption for your data, which is exactly what you would expect from a service started by Kim Dotcom. As a result, you can trust it to secure your data and to provide high levels of privacy.

MEGA is used by approximately 210m users around the world. It is hugely popular because of its free 20 GB plan. That is a lot of free storage space, considering this is a high-quality backup service that is easy to use, and well designed. The service has auto backup with scheduling, file versioning, no file size limits, and the ability to back up any file type. And, if you do use up all your free storage purchasing more is very cheap.

The advantages of using a cloud Backup in India?

Your data is hugely important and losing it can cause a lot of heartbreak. Unfortunately, the devices we carry with us each day can become lost, broken, or stolen. When this happens our photos, videos, and personal documents, are lost forever.

Computers and mobile devices can also suffer cyberattacks or become infected with exploits such as spyware, trojans, malware, and ransomware. When this happens, our data could also be lost. Finally, a corrupted drive, water damage, or even a bad drop could cause you to lose your data.

By saving your data to the cloud, you ensure that you can recover it at any time. This ensures that your holiday snaps, wedding videos, and any important work documents can be safely restored to a new device if necessary.

Best of all, most cloud backup services nowadays have a free option. That means you can start backing up your data to the cloud without paying a rupee. And, if you do decide you need more space, the options in this guide have been selected because they have highly competitive prices, that allow you to scale up and secure more data as and when you need to.

Why you should avoid Google Drive or Dropbox

These two service providers are extremely well known and popular throughout the world. They literally have millions of users Despite this, they do not adequately provide privacy for their users.

Both Google Drive and Dropbox provide server-side encryption, which means that they control the key to your vault. This means that the company can access your data, share access with third parties, and allow the government to snoop on your vault if served a warrant.

These services also have privacy policies that allow them to use algorithms to search through your data. They do this for marketing purposes – or to gain insights for the development of new products.

These types of practices are highly invasive, which is why we prefer services that have strong privacy policies, and, preferably, end-to-end encryption (E2EE).

With E2EE you have sole control over the key to your vault, which ensures that your data is highly secure against data leaks, data breaches, and any other snooping either from the company or government agencies. See our how secure is cloud storage guide for more details about this.

What features does a cloud backup for India need?

Not all cloud backup services have a wide selection of useful features. To ensure that we only recommend services that are versatile and suitable for backing up data from all your devices, we use the following checklist to find the very best cloud backups for India:

More food for thought...

The only way to ensure that your data remains completely private is to use a cloud backup service that provides end-to-end encryption, Many services provide server-side encryption for convenience and to allow users to regain access if they lose or forget their password. However, this allows the company to access your vault, which can potentially lead to data leaks, breaches, and surveillance. By choosing a cloud backup for India that has E2EE, you will encrypt your data before it is uploaded, which prevents anybody from ever accessing your vault.

India Cloud Backup – Conclusion

Losing personal data is extremely frustrating, and can cause you to lose a lot of important work and memories. The good news is that there is absolutely no reason not to back up your data each day so that you never have to worry about device loss, theft, or malfunction.

Nowadays, the internet is filled with exploits that could cause your device to lose data. If your phone or computer becomes infected with malware, it will not be such a problem if your data is already secured online.

We understand that not everybody can afford huge amounts of cloud backup space. The good news, however, is that you can start backing up your data to the cloud for free. And, in this article, we have recommended services that provide reasonable costs to extend the initial free space that is provided.

With free cloud backup space available, you have no excuse not to secure your most important files. And, thanks to our recommended cloud backups for India, you can do so with the added privacy and data security you deserve!
